ABOUT 1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
This program encourages parents and caregivers to provide positive, nurturing early experiences by reading aloud daily to children. Put reading first, with 20 minutes a day spent reading to your children. Make it fun and exciting. Be imaginative. If you read just 1 book a day, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in just three years!
- For every 100 books read, a small ‘way to go!’ prize* will be available. Prizes will be available for pick up at your preferred MPHPL location.
- Participant names will be placed on our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten bimonthly program guide page. After reaching 1000 books read, we offer the option for your child to get their picture taken; the picture will be in the program guide and may be used in future marketing materials, online or in print.
Super Sibling Reader: Any sibling who reads 50 books to a brother or sister enrolled in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program will also receive a prize. Use the log available in the starter folder for the sibling to keep track of the books they read to your little one. When they’re done, visit the library for a prize. Each sibling is eligible to fill out one log/receive one prize for the duration of their brother/sister’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten journey.
* A prize will be offered at each level; however, the type of prize offered at each level at any given time is dependent on the current funding level of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative.
