The purpose of this position is to assist with staffing the Circulation desk and maintaining efficient public service.
Details
LOCATION: Mishawaka Library (location subject to change)
DEPARTMENT: Adult Services
HOURS: Part-Time
- 31-32 hours per week
- Includes evenings and Saturday rotation (hours subject to change)
WAGE: $17.00
Essential Job Duties
- Learn and follow general library operating policies
- Prepare the circulation desk for daily operation
- Check out and check in all types of library materials; assist patrons with the self-check system
- Shelve all types of library materials
- Figure fines and collect monies
- Issue library cards using patron registration procedures
- Process reserves, holds, interlibrary loans and damaged materials
- Process mail according to identified procedures
- Answer the phone and direct calls to appropriate staff
- Complete assigned shelf reading and maintain department organization
- Work independently using good organizational skills
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
Work Skills
- Ability to communicate and work well with patrons and staff
- Basic computer skills and ability to type accurately
- Basic math skills
- Ability to learn the library’s automated circulation system
- Ability to work independently and accurately
- Ability to learn new skills and follow directions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to pull a loaded cart.
- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds
- Ability to frequently stand, bend or stoop
- Ability, stamina, and balance to perform basic movements frequently

Job Description
The Adult Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating system-wide circulation services, reference services and local family history.
Details
LOCATION: Mishawaka Library (location subject to change)
DEPARTMENT: Adult Services
HOURS: Full Time
- 40 hours
- At least one Saturday per month and occasional evenings to meet scheduling needs
WAGE: $37.00/hour
Essential Job Duties
- Demonstrate positive leadership; serve on the MPHPL Administrative Team
- Develop and coach direct reports; encourage a consistent high standard of customer service
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels at Adult Services desks; allocate movement of staff to other locations to cover shifts as necessary
- Respond swiftly and professionally to resolve patron conflict equitably and tactfully address those involved in inappropriate behavior
- Support the continued development of the Local Family & History collection, including current and future digitization efforts
- Maintain and communicate written departmental procedures
- Maintain relevant statistics and compile reports as requested
- Serve on the Collection Maintenance, Reading Challenge and Technology committees
- Assist with staffing service desks as needed
- Participate in professional development to stay abreast of current trends, emerging issues and best practices in public libraries
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library Science
- Two years of supervisory experience
Work Skills
- Good communication skills and ability to multitask
- Proficient in customer service
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to instruct patrons and staff in library technology; ability to learn new technology quickly

- Shelve youth library materials
- Check out library materials; assist patrons with the self-check system
- Answer the phone and direct calls to appropriate staff
- Complete assigned shelf reading and maintain department organization
- Prepare crafts and displays
- Work independently using good organizational skills
- Perform other duties as assigned
