Ancestry Library Edition Access Extended to September 30, 2021

Great News!

Ancestry Library Edition will now be available remotely for the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library’s patrons. Because of the pandemic, Ancestry is allowing Ancestry Library Edition to be accessed remotely. This means that through the end of September 2021, patrons will be able to sign into Ancestry Library Edition from their home using their library card number and their PIN.

You can access Ancestry Library Edition by going to the MPHPL website at and clicking on the tabs Digital > Databases > Ancestry Library Edition. Clicking on the Ancestry logo will open a page asking you to enter your library number and PIN. If you do not have a library card and do not wish to come to the library, you may apply for an Adult Digital Card. The dropdown box from the Digital tab also has the link to the Adult Digital Card.

Because Ancestry Library Edition is an Ancestry product marketed to institutions, you will not be able to create or modify a family tree. But you will be able to search family trees and have access to records of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada, Europe, Australia and other areas of the world.

You will get the most out of your research by using Ancestry’s card catalog. Simply click Search then Catalog to get to their card catalog. Once in the catalog, enter the name of the location in the title or keyword field.

A friendly tip is to make sure the sort by box is set on Database Title. It will retrieve all the databases for that location alphabetically. Ancestry’s collection includes thousands of databases and billions of indexed names which are indispensable to genealogy research, and are complementary to HeritageQuest, and Fold3 (military service records), which are also available remotely with your library card.
