Tech Assistance

About the Service

Tech Assistance is a free, by-appointment 30-minute in-person or virtual Zoom session with an MPHPL staff member. Staff can assist with technology-related inquiries that require time beyond the usual walk-in help.

Eligibility

You must be an MPHPL cardholder to book a session. For a virtual session, an email address is required. If needing device assistance, a webcam is required.

  • Computer, mobile device, internet and email basics
  • Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • eBooks, eAudiobooks, music and other digital library materials and related apps
  • Genealogy research and tracing your family tree
  • Using the library’s catalog or one of our online resources
  • Resume assistance

Restrictions

  • We cannot assist with medical, legal or finance issues.
  • We do not offer technical support or troubleshooting services, except when it relates to library resources.
  • We cannot help with credit card transactions.
  • We cannot type or proofread your documents.

Be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • What topic do you need help with?
  • What type of device do you have? What brand?
    • Computer/laptop (PC or Mac)
    • Tablet (iPad, Kindle, Samsung, etc.)
    • Phone (Android or Apple iPhone)
  • What questions do you have about the topic?
    • Up to three questions can be addressed per appointment, depending on the complexity of the topic.
  • What days and times are you available to meet?

Appointments can be scheduled at any MPHPL location, subject to staff availability.

If a liability waiver is needed, it must be signed before the start of the appointment. Waivers are available at the Reference/Adult Services desk.
