About the Challenge
Books Before… is a set of programs designed to grow with the reader. Our 60 Books Before High School program is intended for middle school students in grades 6-8.
Why 60 Books?
- The program was inspired by the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.
- Completing a book gives students a sense of accomplishment and builds confidence.
- Reading explores real-world issues, such as friendship and peer pressure.
- Remembering storylines, characters, and plots enhances memory skills that will benefit students as they progress in their academic career.
How it Works
- Use the online registration form or visit the Youth Services desk to enroll.
- Write down the title of each book you complete on your reading log.
- Rate each book on a scale of 1 to 5 stars.
- For every 10 books read …
- Bring your reading log to the Youth Services desk.
- Earn a prize!
- Get your name in our bimonthly program guide.
Prize Information
- 10, 30 and 50 books: Choose from an assortment of “way to go!” prizes.Â
- Â 20 and 40 books:Â Pick a free book from our prize basket.Â
- 60 books: Receive a Certificate of Achievement and a free book.Â
